FCB: the lost episodes
This week will see the posting of no less than four new Friday Coffeeblogging episodes. They were all recorded over the last two months and then languished on my iBook as I became very busy with other projects in the fall. Now that the holidays are approaching, it's time to put these to bed and begin a new chapter of FCB. In just a few minutes, I'll post episode 21, which was recorded back on September 16th. I should have #22 up by tonight sometime, with the others to follow in a few days. Everything should be up to date by Thanksgiving. We'll record our next new episode the day after Turkey Day and I'll return to my following-Tuesday posting schedule.
Thanks for your patience.

So I've received a copy of the podcasting book I blogged about last week and the bit about Friday Coffeeblogging is great. To recap: super tech publisher O'Reilly has published a pocket guide to podcasting called, appropriately enough, the Podcasting Pocket Guide. It's a precursor to a larger and more comprehensive book on the subject that they're preparing. The author interviewed us last summer and sure enough, we're in the book. Specifically, we're in chapter 5: 30 Great Podcasts. FCB is the first podcast covered in the section.

Below I have copied what the book says about FCB. I have yet to further peruse the guide, but it looks like its a really straightforward how-to guide for podcasting--both finding and subscribing to podcasts and making your own. The 30 Great Podcasts chapter looks like a gold mine of good content and considering how many people read these O'Reilly books, I should really get to editing the FCBs I have sitting "in the can." I suspect some traffic might come our way from this
Thanks Richard!

Friday Coffeeblogging is unique among podcasts and not only for its content: the show is recorded in a coffee shop in downtown Burlington, Vermont, and the atmosphere is recorded right along with the show. Captured in the background are the clinks of coffee cups, the murmur of the patrons, and the warbling of the café's background music. (And you can almost smell the coffee...)
The hosts of the show are Bill Simmon, N. Todd Pritsky, and Gregory Giordano, also known by their "web handles" Bill, Ntodd, and Flameape. In some respects, the show is like Seinfeld: it's about nothing. The podcast is simply an exploration of whatever happens on the day it's recorded. This lack of direction may turn you off, but the personality of the hosts is what really grabs you.
This podcast is a talkfest among three close friends with the occasional slice of music thrown in to spice things up, and, in most cases, the conversation slips into geek speak. Discussions range from meanderings and personal anecdotes, such as Flameape's claim that he is a personal disaster zone, to opinions of movies such as Star Wars: Episode III--Revenge of the Sith where the gang interviewed fans waiting in line for the premier at Burlington's Roxy Cinema.
Thanks Richard!

FCB in print!
This past summer the Friday Coffeeblogging group was contacted by a writer named Richard Giles who was doing a book for O'Reilly Publications called the Whole Internet Guide to Podcasts and Internet Audio. He had some interview questions for us and I, at least, replied at length (not sure if NTodd or Flameape ever did).
Well today Richard emailed us to say that:
The larger book is on the way, but in the meantime, I just ordered my copy of this smaller one. Yay! Now I just have to get back to actually publishing some podcasts.

- While we wait for that to hit stores, my publisher, O'Reilly, has
included a cut down version of some of my reviews in the Podcasting
Pocket Guide. Your podcast is included.
