FCB running a tad late this week
It's about half edited and I was too tired to finish it last night so I'll try and get it done today. I won't let myself feel pressured about it on my vacation, so don't bother trying. It was a good podcast so it'll be worth the wait.

FCB field report
Radio Bean+NTodd+Matty the Greek+Cathy Resmer+very special guest Spine=FCB18. Yes, it's true. West coast Candleblogger Spine is in town this week and he joined us for today's FCB recording. It was a good show and I'll have it up on Tuesday. Flameape was busy but we managed to snag the mobile preamp from him and get recording anyway.

FCB on VPR
So the Vermont Public Radio piece on podcasting in Vermont will air tomorrow according to reporter Steve Zind. I just now got the following email from him:
So everyone tune in! I don't know if it will be available as a linkable mp3 or not but if it is I'll link to it here.
UPDATE: The show is available to listen to online here.
It's a good piece. I long for the day when stories about podcasting don't spend half the time telling people what podcasting is, but news stories still often describe what blogs are so I guess it will be a while yet. Interestingly, I don't see any links to any of the three podcasts mentioned in the story on the VPR site. Am I missing them? That seems like a really bad oversight. That's the sort of thing that would drive me to the website. If I heard this story on the radio and wanted links, the first place I'd check is the VPR site. Stef? What's the deal?
UPDATE #2: So reading the transcript of the piece is pretty weird. Here is a snip:
Okay, so not to nitpick but...
The show is called Friday Coffeeblogging, not "The radio (sic) Bean Friday Coffeeblog."
We've been podcasting for exactly 4 months today, not 5 months.
We "cover the waterfront?"
"Medicorps?" A quick email to me would have fixed this. They're called midi-clorians, and as the intrepid young interviewee stated so eloquently in that episode of FCB, they're "retarded."
Still, it was nice to be noticed and Steve was really cool. I'm still hoping to get him down to the Bean some Friday.
Bill,
I think the podcasting piece airs Tuesday morning...7:30am would be my
guess...and again in the afternoon at 5:30 or 5:50. I hope it came out
ok. Thanks for your help!
Steve

- (Zind) The work of one group of Vermont podcasters has already attracted attention. Every Friday afternoon there's a small gathering at a Burlington cafe.
(Simmon) "Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Friday Coffeeblogging. My name is Bill. We are at the Radio Bean in Burlington, Vermont."
(Zind) The radio Bean Friday Coffeeblog was mentioned recently in a podcasting article in Business Week Magazine.
As someone who's been podcasting for five months, Bill Simmon is a veteran.
He and his podcasting partners and any guests who drop in, cover the waterfront in each week's thirty to forty minute podcast - from technology to politics to pop culture.
(Simmon) "We did record one episode standing in line to see episode three of the Star Wars Movie."
(Star Wars music)
(Simmon)"What do you think of Medicorps?
(Man)Medicorps is the most retarded thing that George Lucas has ever done "
Okay, so not to nitpick but...

FCB Field Report
We had more people than we had microphones today so we had to cuddle up and share. We were very excited to be joined by Vermont blogger Amy Stender from the Upper Valley. She came bearing cards advertising the UV Scene party list in an attempt to recruit some Burlington attendees at UV Scene bashes. So we'll have to go down there and drink and dance and carry on.
We also witnessed Amy's transformation from vegitarian to carnivore over the course of 2.5 hours. she sat down at the table a strict veggie and left the Bean to go get a chicken club wrap from the tortilla place next door. Our meat mojo is powerful.

The host with the most
Friday Coffeeblogging's hosting and DNS service is provided by my friend Nick's company, Hostito. Today Nick emailed and told me that because he likes listening to FCB, he's waiving our domain registry fee for this year. That's a savings of almost $9. In return for this unsolicited donation, I'm giving him a little plug. Hostito offers very cheap web hosting and great service. Check them out. Tell 'em Bill sent ya.

FCB field report
It occured to me today that I've been posting over at Candleblog whenever we meet for coffee and blogging on Fridays and it makes sense to put those posts here as well--in case anyone looks at this site but doesn't frequent the other. So I'll begin double posting these reports at both blogs. Below is today's entry.
A small but productive FCB was recorded today. NTodd and I were all by our lonesome for the first half as Flameape had to do some last minute scrambling on some work and Matty the Greek and Zephyr are out of town. Cathy showed up for part two and we had a grand old time. Cathy may be the biggest Little House on the Prairie nerd I've ever met. I am awed by her devotion. Listen to the podcast on Tuesday to learn more.

FCB on the actual radio
As posted over at Candleblog...
I just got back from being interviewed by Steve Zind from Vermont Public Radio. He's doing a news story about podcasting and wanted to know all about Friday Coffeeblogging. We met at Muddy Waters and I spoke into the coolest little Marantz digital recorder--I totally want one. Steve said the story will air sometime next week and that he'll send me an email with the broadcast time. I'll post here when I know.
