Life's little conundrumsFriday, April 06 2007 @ 01:41 PM Which opening-night movie do I go see tonight, the one that reinvented the monster movie genre and is almost universally adored, or the one that explodes in your balls "like a shotgun filled with handjobs?" Hmmm...
UPDATE: Saw The Host. It was good, but hardly the life-changing experience everyone's making it out to be. There are some pretty significant narrative issues, but I did care about the characters and there were a few laugh-out-loud moments, so you should probably go see it.

I am going to see Host. Because
a. I've been waiting to see it for a super long time and didn't even think it would be showing in theaters so I'm really excited,
b. I feel dread and fear when I consider what kind of crowd might be turning out for the first weekend of Grindhouse.

I feel dread and fear when I consider what kind of crowd might be turning out for the first weekend of Grindhouse.
While I feel an odd mixture of fascination, revulsion and morbid curiosity. It's actually a compelling argument in favor of Grindhouse, but Emily has called it and we're going to The Host. Life's little conundrums

I am also interested in the slice of humanity which is turning out for Grindhouse this weekend - but I'm interested in a purely scientific sense, not interested in spending my precious dollars to be stuck in a room with them.

Picture it: City Market. Last night. There's three of us, first customer: diet coke, animal crackers, banana chips, trail mix. Second customer: Coke, swedish fish, chocolate covered gummy bears. Me: just a Coke. We're bantering and being witty with each other while waiting in line, and the check-out clerk is amused. A punk-lookin' dude, when he's checking the second customer through, he says,
"Let me guess, you guys must be going to the movies!" "Yep, we are!" "What are you gonna see?" We look at each other in shame. "Is it Grindhouse?" He asked. "Um, no. We're gonna go see Blades of Glory," First customer mumbles. "Oh." Says the clerk. "Yea, I think that's pretty much the opposite of Grindhouse." I say. It was amusing, none the less. I am told that I was the loudest laugher, and that I laughed at one particularly inappropriate moment. (child crying...come on, that's FUNNY!) ...Tsunami of Swagger... But I've lost mad cred with that check-out clerk. He'll probably charge me for Organic when I get Conventional from here-on-out. ::LeSigh:: Life's little conundrums

Saw The Host! Really, really liked it. But I didn't read any reviews, so I don't think my expectations were as jacked up as everyone else's. I read a lot of articles about horror movies and effects, but usually avoid reading reviews so as not to taint my viewing experience. And I'll only watch ONE trailer for any given flick.
