NAB bound am I

life of billTomorrow afternoon I will be flying out to Las Vegas for the annual National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) convention. My co-worker Bear and I will be wandering the miles of pavilions and booths put up by manufacturers and vendors in the fields of film, television, radio, new media, internet, etc. It's film/video tech mecca. I have gone to this convention once before two years ago and man were my feet tired. Lot's of walking.

I'm not a big fan of Vegas as a tourist destination. I don't care at all about gambling, and the rest of the attractions are pretty cheesy. I would love to see Penn & Teller's show, but they are not performing this week. I did the Star Trek ride two years ago. Basically, all I'm looking forward to in the city are the buffets, the Apple store and the In-n-Out Burger.

I will certainly be blogging from the convention when I can. I have no idea if the convention center will have WiFi (probably, but I'll bet it won't be free--just checked, yup). The hotel (MGM Grand) does have broadband but through an ethernet wire in the room, which Bear and I will arm wrestle over, no doubt.

So stay tuned to Candleblog for up to minute reports from NAB. And don't forget, the organization behind this convention is EVIL. I will truly be in the belly of the beast. How fitting that the convention is in Sin City.

UPDATE: So I wasn't there for the big Apple news that everyone has been saying was coming at this year's NAB. According to the email I just got from Apple...

"This morning at NAB 2005, Apple announced Final Cut Studio. This completely integrated suite combines four video and audio production applications that work as one, giving you the tools to make your best work even better."

Basically, it's Final Cut Pro 5. They are bundling it with a bunch of other software to make it extra sexy. I will make sure to get a demo at the Apple pavilion and report back (to all three of you who care).
